The classical tale opens: King Vikramaditya's court debates which of the nine grahas is supreme, Saturn's fearsome iconography and myths, and the careless remark that summons him.
Saturn's sade sati begins in earnest: the flying horse, the merchant's daughter's test, a swan that swallows a necklace, and the false accusation that costs the king his hands and feet.
Years at the oil mill, a song that lights every lamp in the city, a princess's vow — and the moment Saturn offers the crippled king any boon he wants, and hears an unexpected answer.
Saturn's own stories: the ordeal he gave his guru over a few compressed hours, Shiva hiding in the Ganges, Rama's exile, Ravana's mistake, and Krishna's brush with false accusation.
Saturn grants the true upaya — hearing this story itself — teaches the Shani Stotra, and the tale closes with reconciliation, marriage, and Vikramaditya's triumphant return home.
