Timing technique
The Saturn return: the birthday that comes every 29 years.
By Marie-Ange Le, astrologer and math lover
Saturn takes 29.5 years to go around the zodiac. So around 29, then 58, then 88, it comes back to the exact place it held when you were born. That is your Saturn return. It is one of the few timings in astrology you can check with a calculator, and one of the most reliable in real lives.
The math first
Saturn moves about 12 degrees a year, one sign every two and a half years. One full lap takes 29.46 years. Divide your age by that number: when you get close to 1, 2 or 3, you are in a return.
Because Saturn seems to go backward a few months each year (retrograde), it can touch your birth degree up to three times. The whole season lasts about two and a half years: from the day Saturn enters your Saturn sign to the day it leaves.
Find your dates
Open your birth chart and note the sign and degree of Saturn. Your return season starts when Saturn enters that sign, and peaks when it crosses your exact degree.
Saturn is in Aries from 14 February 2026 to 13 April 2028. So if you were born between April 1996 and early 1999, you are in your first Saturn return now. Born between March 1967 and April 1969? This is your second one.
What it asks of you
Saturn is the planet of structure, time and limits. Its return is a check: what you built in the last 29 years either holds, or it doesn't. Jobs, relationships, homes and habits that were borrowed or half chosen tend to fall away. What is truly yours gets stronger and more serious.
To make it personal, look at the house where Saturn sits in your birth chart. That is the area of life under review: the 2nd house money, the 7th house partners, the 10th house career.
Example: Taylor Swift and her masters
Taylor Swift was born with Saturn at 13° Capricorn, the sign of ownership and long-term building. Saturn entered Capricorn on 20 December 2017, a week after her 28th birthday, and crossed her exact degree in January 2019.
In November 2018 she signed a new record deal that let her own every future album. In June 2019 her first label was sold with her first six albums. Her answer was pure Saturn in Capricorn: she re-recorded them, one by one, to own her work. You can open her chart and the dated events of her life on her page in our famous birth charts.
Example: Albert Einstein leaves the patent office
Einstein had Saturn at 4° Aries. Saturn crossed that degree three times: April 1908, November 1908 and January 1909.
In 1908 he started teaching at the University of Bern while still working at the patent office. In 1909 he left the office for his first professor post, in Zurich. The ideas came in 1905. The structure, the title and the career came with the Saturn return.
Read yours in three steps
1. The house of natal Saturn: which part of life is being tested.
2. Saturn's condition: in its own signs (Capricorn, Aquarius) or exalted (Libra), the return often feels like a promotion. In Cancer, Leo or Aries, it tends to ask for more effort first.
3. Your profection year: at 29 you are in a 6th house year (work, health, daily routine), at 30 in a 7th house year (partners). Many first returns land on a new job or a commitment for exactly this reason.

Questions
At what age is the Saturn return?
The first one between 27 and 30, exact around 29 and a half. The second around 58 to 59, the third around 88.
How long does a Saturn return last?
About two and a half years, the time Saturn takes to cross your Saturn sign. The exact hits on your birth degree are the peak.
Who has a Saturn return in 2026 and 2027?
Saturn is in Aries from February 2026 to April 2028. People born from April 1996 to early 1999 have their first return, people born from March 1967 to April 1969 their second.
Is the Saturn return always hard?
Not always. It is serious, and it asks for real choices. When Saturn is well placed in your chart, or when you have already built on solid ground, it often brings recognition and stability.
Do I need my birth time?
Not for the dates: Saturn moves slowly, so your birth date is enough. You need the birth time to know the house of Saturn, which tells you the area of life involved.
