Mercury retrograde: three weeks to go back over things.
Right now, from 24 October to 13 November 2026, Mercury is retrograde in Scorpio. It happens three times a year, about three weeks each time. Here is what really happens in the sky, the exact dates up to the end of 2027, and how to know which part of your life it touches.
What happens in the sky
Mercury never moves backward. It turns around the Sun much faster than we do: one lap in 88 days. About every 116 days it passes between the Earth and the Sun, and for three weeks, seen from here, it seems to slide back along the zodiac. Like a car you overtake on the highway that looks like it is going backward.
The math: 365 days divided by 116 gives about 3 retrogrades a year. Three weeks each time is close to 20% of the year. So about one person in five is born with Mercury retrograde.
Now: Mercury retrograde in Scorpio
Mercury stopped on 24 October 2026 at 21° Scorpio, slides back to 5° Scorpio, and turns direct again on 13 November.
The shadow: Mercury first crossed 5° Scorpio on 4 October, and only gets back to 21° on 30 November. Between those two dates it passes three times over the same 16 degrees. That is why topics from early October come back now, and settle at the end of November.

9 February to 3 March 2027: from 6° Pisces back to 21° Aquarius (shadow 25 January to 23 March).
10 June to 4 July 2027: from 6° Cancer back to 27° Gemini (shadow 26 May to 19 July).
7 October to 28 October 2027: from 5° Scorpio back to 19° Libra (shadow 17 September to 13 November).
What it really asks of you
Mercury rules speech, messages, contracts, short trips and the way we think. When it goes back, the words with "re" work best: review, reread, rework, reconnect, repair. Old files and old contacts come back on the table.
It is not a disaster. It is a slower lane. Mail gets lost, plans change, details were missed. If you read twice and keep a margin in your schedule, it often becomes the best time of the year to finish and correct.

2. Look for a planet of yours between 5° and 21° Scorpio, or opposite in Taurus. Mercury will touch it three times, so that is where you will feel it most.
